~Spiritual Attention Deficit Disorder~

We don’t consciously and deliberately disobey God—we simply don’t listen to Him  (Oswald Chamber)

God’s regular communication does not depend on how loudly He speaks to us but upon how well we listen (Author Unknown). Barnabas and Paul sought the Lord through prayer and fasting. They were consumed with desire—the desire to know the Lord and surrender themselves to His will. As they prayed the Holy Spirit spoke (Acts 13:1-3), “Separate to Me Barnabas and Paul for the work.” They received a divine revelation by focusing on God and giving Him their undivided attention. Proverbs 29:18 in The Message Bible says " If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed."

It is important that we listen. God speaks with a still small voice, so we must tune in and listen attentively (1 Kings 19:11-12). “As we listen, our ears become more sensitive,” Oswald Chambers. The church at Antioch learned to listen by prioritizing their lives. We often don’t take time to listen to that which is going on inside of us. God is constantly sending us signals that direct our attention to those things we do which are harmful to our well being and put us out of harmony with Him. God is talking but we are not hearing Him. Why? Our lives are cluttered with activity. We are attempting to focus our attention on too many things. We end up with a SADD condition in our lives (Spiritual Attention Deficit Disorder). Prayer, reading God’s Word and spending time with Him is the cure for a SADD condition.

Our hearts become sensitive as we seek God in prayer and meditation in his word. To find God's perfect will and direction for our lives, we need to truly seek after him with all of are heart and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us. The church in Antioch saw God work marvelously because they sought Him. “Whenever God gives a vision to a Christian, it is as if He puts him in “the shadow of His hand. The saint’s duty is to be still and listen,” Oswald Chambers.
