THE SEA OF GALILEE

Miracle: In general, a wonderful thing, expressed more clearly in the Greek text by the terms terata, dynameis, semeia, i.e., wonders performed by supernatural power as signs of some special mission or gift and explicitly ascribed to God.

Simple seemingly insignificant acts of obedience are often times the very things that God uses as the vehicle for miracles and revelations of His desires for us. One day Simon Peter loaned Jesus his fishing boat and his life was never the same after that. Jesus faced a dilemma because multitudes of curious people crowded around Him as He taught. Nobody was able to hear Jesus except those standing directly in front of Him. Peter, John, James and Andrew had fished all night and as the custom were preparing their nets on the shores of the sea nearby. Jesus had an idea so he approached Peter and asked to use His boat. Peter consented. From his boat (which had been transformed into a floating pulpit) Jesus preached. His voice bounced off the water and echoed into the surrounding hillside. Thousands were to hear the Word of God..... as he preached on the Sea of Galilee.

When Jesus concluded His teaching session He said to Peter, "Launch out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." ... He replied, "Master, we have worked hard all night and caught nothing. But because You say so I will let down the nets. A great multitude of fish overloaded their nets and the fishermen were overcome with amazement. Peter was willing to obey Jesus in spite of his doubts that day. His simple act of obedience, that seemed foolish to him at the time, resulted in one of the greatest miracles he ever experienced. Peter saw the power of God that day. .

When the group of men returned to shore, Peter fell down at Jesus feet saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord! Jesus said to Peter, "There is nothing to fear. From now on you'll be fishing for men and women." Luke 5:10 (The Message) Peter's simple obedience was responsible for a great miracle that changed his life; causing him to forsake everything and follow Jesus (Luke 5:11). This event was very significant to Peter, afterwards he walked on the water, raised Tabitha from the dead and healed the lame man at the temple gate. Henry Ward Beecher wrote, The strength and happiness of a man or woman consists in finding out the way in which God is going and going that way too.
