"He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying." ( Friedrich Nietzsche)

A good comparison of the eagle, the wind, the child of God, and the Holy Spirit is like this: As the eagle depends upon the wind for the lifting power, so does a child of God depend upon the Holy Spirit to help them get above the pull of the world. Without the existence of wind no eagle can fly; but if there is no wind, the eagle has only to leap into the air, flap its wing a time or two, and it is airborne. But when there is no wind blowing, the eagle must make its own wind. This is done by beating the air with its wings. The more wind the less flapping; the less wind the more flapping. Without wind, the take-off of the eagle may well resemble the giant Albatross or Dodo bird in a clumsy attempt to get off the ground. The child of God is the same way! The more the Spirit of God is moving, the less human fleshy efforts on our part are needed. If the Spirit of God is not moving as we like, we sometimes start "flapping" in an attempt,  to get things moving our way.

In the Bible view of eagles, thousands of years ago, we often find the eagle used as a symbol of strength and swift action. For example, David, upon learning of the death of Jonathan and Saul, said about the two: "they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions" (II Sam. 1:23). Or listen to Proverbs 23:5 for a idea we can all surely understand. There, the wise man urges us to not trust in money, for, he says, "riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven". How often have we seen our money quickly vanish, just as if it had sprouted wings and flown away!

The eagle was the symbol for the mighty Roman Empire, and many other nations. The good news is that as a child of God, you can make the eagle your own personal symbol. As a follower of Christ, you'll be given your own eagles' wings! How? Isaiah says we should put our trust in God because " Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)
